I have two licenses for UMG 4 and recently downloaded the v5 update. I am a DNN consultant so I need to have the ability to test new versions using licenses on my servers before placing anything on a client's DNN installation. Because of the licensing model for UMG I run into issues trying to do so since the license is active on my client's DNN installation.
I think this is an awesome module and I appreciate the hard work you've put into it.
I am extremely happy with the module itself. However, the licensing model could be relaxed a bit, in my opinion. I think you need to trust your customers more and take yourself out of the loop. Currently, there is a "single point of failure" in the licensing model. If something happens to your, or as has happened before, an earthquake knocks out your internet connection, my business shouldn't be impacted. Having to contact a vendor to have a license deactivated worked well before the internet came along. Just my thoughts, and from the number of questions on the forums about migrating licenses, I'm sure I'm not the only one that is frustrated. Let me reiterate though that this is absolutely the best module out there for photo galleries!
If I purchase an enterprise license is it legal to use my license for testing on my servers and on my clients test servers and use the client's license for their production DNN installation? I would remove my license from their test servers once testing is complete.
I will continue to recommend UMG. Making my job easier regarding licensing equates to more sales for you!

I have to say I'm not sure about "sinlge point of failure", why a clinet have to contact vendor when the internet connection is off? you can use you license for test usage and use it for your client's production site, but please note only this client can use your license for production sites. if you have other clients they can't use it. |

Thanks for the quick reply.
I was referring to your internet connection, not the clients. By "single point of failure" I mean we are dependent upon you deactivating a license before we can migrate between servers. If you don't have internet access, something happens to you, you take vacation, or whatever, we can't migrate between servers. Is that an accurate assessment of the situation?
you can use you license for test usage and use it for your client's production site, but please note only this client can use your license for production sites. if you have other clients they can't use it. I make sure each client has their own license for their production server. I only use my license for testing. With that being said, looks like it's time for me to upgrade to an enterprise license!
Thanks again for your help, quick replies and keep up the good work!

I can't say our server is 100% available but I didn't get a compliant about this situtation up to now. And manually acitvateion is available if you have any trouble with this, so I think it is ok but I appreciate your feedback. I always take a notebook when in travel, even it reduce the fun of my vacaion :( The license is ok to you, you can go ahead. thank you. |
