I use UMG 3.0 on my family website. I have created a blank album with the family members ["name" album]. Now I have taken their version 2.5 albums and made them a subalbum to the empty one.

I have checked the User's Guide for 3.0 and cannot answer my question. I would like the user to be to make their own subalbums in the Blank album so they can organize them such as, birthdays, christmas, ect.

How can I give them the permission to be able to create their own subalbums?

Well, the albums are managed by users who have Edit Permission in your gallery, so you can grant Edit Permission to your familiy members or you create it for them. however, I think the 2nd way is better.

Thanks.

Well, I prefer not to give my users total permission where they can destroy the total module by mistake.

I have several users, and I do not have the time to make nested albums for all of them.

Your concept is great, but give us an option that will allow the users to create their own nested albums without having to give them permission for the entire module.

To accomplish your requirement, more settings is necessary, for example, there must be a setting to control which roles are allowed to create new albums, which roles are allowed to manage existing albums. and maybe there also should be an option to set which roles are allowed to run gallery settings... etc.

I worry it may make this module hard to use because so much setting options. so currently I prefer to control the permission of menu items in 2nd line of quick navigation bar by only 1 setting.

Thanks.

PengTsen,

It may not be as complicated to implement if done this way:  Simply allow users that are in 'Manage Roles' under 'Rights' of an Album, to create lower level albums.

With this approach, there would be no additional settings... only more coding.  The coding necessary would include giving 'Manager Role' users access to the 'Manage Albums' page... but only show the 'Edit Pen' on Albums they are approved to Manage (based on existing album rights settings).

The other coding would be for the 'Edit' and 'Add New' album settings pages.  Here it would make sense to disable or hide the 'Rights' area, and automatically use the same rights that were applied on the parent folder.

And with that, no more settings for uses... and they can create their own sub albums.

In addition, if you want to control whether or not this capability is only available on certain albums, simply add one checkbox to the album settings page named something like "Manage Role Albums" in the 'General Settings'.

Thanks for your description of your imagination about this feature! I still think it is not worth to provide such an extra settings to provide this feature, I do know in some situation it is usefull (like Darnell Jordan's situation) but this is the first I got such a requirement.

However, I have recorded this requirement and will consider it if it is asked by more customers.

Thanks.

Pengtsen,

First let me say I have been very pleased with UMG, you have done a great job with this one.

Please add me to the list of users that would love to see the ability for certain users (Manager Role or Owner) to create Sub-Albums. This would be a huge help in on Site Admins in some cases.  Maybe it's just a check box on the owners Album that allows them to create sub-albums so that not very album owner can create subs.

I know this next request would be a long shot but it's something to think about.....   I would like to see a "UnRegistered Users View" checkmark box beside each thumb in Manage Photos.  If checked it would allow Unauthenticated Users to view just that photo, while those with the View Role could view all photos in the album.  The reason I would like this feature is because now I have to move certain photos into an album that is viewable by UnRegistered Users, which changes the structure of my gallery as a whole.  If you have a large Gallery, moving photos around or having multiple copies isn't ideal.

One last idea...  How about the concept of a Virtual Search Album? I would like to have multiple fields like "Description", but Gallery Owner defined. One of those fields could be a "Persons in Photo" field that would allow the photo owner to list by name who's in the photo. Then a Virtual Search Album could be created that filters on a persons name and dynamically create an album of photos of just that person.

Hi Pengsten,

I mailed you about the capability to give certain users access top adding albums, but not have all the other admin rights back in August. This would certainly be of use to me, and get at least one extra sale for your module.

Please add me to the list :-)

Thanks

No problem,

This is what I wrote....

I've just bought UPG, it works well for me.

One question though. Is there a way to allow users to add Albums, but not be able to edit Galllery Settings, Licence, etc? This seems an all or nothing option at the moment.

Cheers
Roger
