I was wondering if there was a way that members can set some photos to private while other photos are public?

Is this mode setting set by the admin or the user? If this feature is set to personal mode, does that mean these photos are only viewable on that member's page? Does that member have the ability to display certain photos on their page and set others to private or is it an "all or nothing" sort of setting. When the members set these photos to private, do they have the ability to give their friends a password that will allow their friends to view these private photos?

Thanks

by admin.

not exactly, there is a "Share" link in Personal Gallery mode, your visitors can use it to share his photos with his friends, but he should manually tell his friends his share url.

Does that member have the ability to display certain photos on their page and set others to private or is it an "all or nothing" sort of setting.

in this mode, you can see all photos from a user if you get the share link.

When the members set these photos to private, do they have the ability to give their friends a password that will allow their friends to view these private photos?

no password is needed.

Is there a way that a member can show photos on their page like myspace or will I need something like your personal gallery to make that happen?

What do you mean by "their page", is "their page" generated by your profile module, if so you can use "profile integration" mode in UMG, so when a user browse his profile he can see his photos.

I maybe have been confused. So, Let me confirm this. If I use the profile integration mode. Is it safe to assume all I need to do is put the profile and the UMG display module on one tab/page?

What profile modules does this work with or is it any profile module?

you need to do another configuraton, in UMG "Settings" page enter appropriate "User key", for further information please refer to the user guide.

smart thinker profile module works fine with UMG, Active Profile WAS not compatible with UMG because it have an own "Profile Id" rather than "User Id", but I heard they were going to change it, but I'm not sure it is changed yet.

thanks.

I'm a little confused. I read this here.

In Personal gallery mode chapter we talked about how to change the run mode of UMG, actually UMG have 4 modes, the 3rd one is Profile Integration, which can be used together with profile modules, when run in this mode, UMG display pictures created by specefic user in specific gallery, please note you can't add any picture in this mode, now let's take a look at related setting options again:

It says you cannot add any picture in this mode. What does this mean? Are you saying users cannot upload photos to their gallery?

Then it says this.

As you see, this module use "ID" parameter in querystring to pass userid of selected user, so the rest is simple, I create a new gallery in the user profile page, configure it to run in profile integration mode, set user key to "id" rather than default "UserId", then try to browse one's profile again, all pictures added by this user in current portal is displayed beside his profile, in this sample I use RightHeader presentation:

I'm confused.

What I want is to set one mode so that users can have their own gallery on their profile page as stated. I want them to have the ability to manage and add photos to their gallleries. can this happen and does UVG operate the same way?

Thanks

when run in Personal Gallery mode:
users can create their own albums and photos, and see their works only.

when run in Profile Integration mode:
you can't upload photos in this mode, but you can select a "source gallery" which is used by UMG to get albums and photos, UMG read "User Key" from the querystring to determine the user id, contact the "source gallery" and get all photos in specified user, then display them in the profile integration gallery.

do you understand it now?

I sort of understand. But, maybe I should ask a direct question which has to do with my needs?

I want my users to have the ability to manage their own galleries, upload photos and display the photos on their own profile page. I would also like my users to have the ability to have private photos.

I would like my users to have the same ability using UVG.

I want to same functionality as myspace, facebook or tagged.

I want my users to have the ability to manage their own galleries,
so you can setup a UMG gallery run in "personal gallery" on your website, here your visitors can have their own gallery.

upload photos and display the photos on their own profile page
on the profile page, you can have a gallery run in "profile integraton" mode, so when browse one's profile you can see his photos.

I would also like my users to have the ability to have private photos.
what do you mean exactly by private photos? in profile integration mode, there is no private photos, all photos from specified user are displayed. however, if you don't have a profile integration gallery then nobody can see photos created by your users.

Let me explain what I mean?

Ok, Profile integration mode is "a given". I know I want my users to have the ability to make galleries and add photos to them. In addition, I would like my uses to have the ability to make private galleries which can only be seen by other members who have been given permission (link or password) by the host of that page.

Finally it would be even more special if the site admin could pick and choose which photos to display as "featured" in the site gallery.

in profile integration mode, there is no private photos, as long as you can see one's profile, you can see his photos, in personal gallery mode, you can't see one's photos unless the owner use the share url to share it with you. the share url can be seen on "Share" screen.

does this make sence?
