Pengsten,

Finally installed UMG and I as usual I am impressed with your work - really great module!!!

Enhancements when running in personal gallery mode - I may sponsor some based on priority:
- Create album message – when you click on “Add New” and you don’t have an album created it shows the create form but the action buttons (Save etc.) are grayed out. This is not very intuitive for the end user. I would like in this case a message to show on top of the form “To upload pictures please create an album first” (the word album hyperlink to Albums)
- Max picture resize - right now each person can set their own. I would like only admins to put a max pic height and width - the users can put what they want but it could not exceed the admin settings. Also, this will ensure that you don't store very large files on your server - right now users can choose to not resize at all!
- Default picture resize - admins to set this up so by default it populates this when you create an album. Is this hard coded right now to 600x350?
- Max File size - a setting to put a max file size for uploading - this is important as I don't want people to bombard my server with large pictures
- Public personal gallery mode -  I love the share idea. However, I have put the personal gallery in a spot on my website where it does not make sense to make public (It's under My profile) and has various profile management related links). Public personal gallery will be an additional gallery mode (similar concept as profile integration) where you will specify the personal gallery where from to pull the info. Basically it will display the same results based on userid but the benefit is that I can position this on a more logical page for public access. There will be a setting in Personal Gallery mode to chose whether this module will serve as "Share" or you can specify a module that runs in Public Personal gallery mode on another page.
- Amazon S3 - is it hard to have similar functionality as the one we did for UVG?
 - Public/Private albums – it will be nice if we add a setting for public/private albums (default should be public). This way an user can specify if an album show in the public presentation (share and user integration)
- Link field – in the Add picture screen there is a Link field. Not sure exactly what it does but it will be nice to have a setting to now show it.
- Confusing Message - “The folder of this album is /Portals/0/UltraPhotoGallery/651/3/large, you can upload your pictures to this folder and synchronize them.” – this is a confusing message for the regular user (they don’t have access to upload anything directly), maybe it should not show??

Let me know.

Thanks!!

Ivan

Ivan, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me, I'll listen what other peoples say.

About the "Default picture resize" point, this is not hard coded, UMG make some calculations and tells you the suggested picture size, different presentations have different result of this calculation, but you can expect the resized picture suite the gallery stage nicely.

The link field is used to set a link for a photo, this link can be used in UMG Classic and some other prsentations, when click on a photo UMG is able to open this link.

thank you.

Pengtsen,

By "Default Picture Resize", I meant the values that auto populate in the album settings when you first create an album. It will be nice to set this up in Settings as the users that don't pay much attention can just leave it like this and 600x350 is rather small.

Thanks.

You see 600*350 as default picture size because your gallery is in default site, if you try to increase your gallery size you will see this value is increased accordingly.

This size is the max size can be displayed in your gallery, it's useless if you increase it, because your stage size is limited and UMG have to zoom out it to ensure the entire picture can be displayed in your gallery stage.

I see.

It is not useless if you increase it though as this is a very important setting that controls how you store your pictures. I may want to have bigger pictures so for example in lightbox view it shows a higher resolution. Also people can use their pictures in other places on the net. Even when the gallery is working in profile module integration you can set it up with a different size than the personal gallery instance.

It's no secret that I'm for the S3 integration and the ability for a Flickr-like solution where users can create their own albums that are public. :)

Thanks for the great work Pengston!

I just would like to jump in and share my experience. I too did not want users to have control over the resizing, thumbnail size, album logo size as well as some others, so what I did was go into the ucEditAlbum.ascx and the ucEditPhoto.ascx and set the values I wanted, then I added a 'visible=false' to the fields I did not want and it works fine. Its a hack but it works for now..

you are smart, mark. this a good idea if you don't want give control to your users about thumbnail size.

Below is part of a post by Ivan T. I agree with Ivan, that Personal Gallery Mode could really be enhanced with features that allow this control:

- Portal/web site members can create a Personal Gallery;

- Admin can limit the number of Albums/Photos that Personal Gallery can store;

- Members can set Personal Gallery Albums as Public or Private;

Admin displays one Gallery that reads-in public Personal Galleries, into 3D Carousel, showing the Album Logo from all the public Personal Galleries. Web user can click on an Album Logo, and enter into that Personal Gallery to see more photos IN that Personal Gallery. Admin can place this Gallery on page with title, "Photos from our Members".

Imporant feature is that each Personal Gallery is managed by only one member. The order and content of photos is kept together 'by theme', because only one member is controlling each Personal Gallery.

(example) 3D Carousel Gallery placed by Admin:

"Photos from Beijing Olympics"

Website members (who are photographers) that go to Beijing create a Personal Gallery. Each Personal Gallery has different photos, based on what that member photographer enjoyed about the Olympics.

One Personal Gallery may be 'swimming/diving' photos;
One Personal Gallery may be 'gymnastics';
One Personal Gallery may be 'track and field';
etc.

Admin does NOT have to manage gallery because Personal Galleries are self-managed by each member photographer. But Admin can show all the member Personal Galleries together, to feature for website visitors in one Ultra Media Gallery 3D Carousel view. Click into a Personal Gallery, browse that Gallery, then click back to 3D Carousel view to see all Personal Galleries. Click into other Galleries that interests you.

it's hard to say if it is going to be supported, however, I recorded your suggestions and will review it when I launch UMG 6.

thank you for sharing your thoughts with me!
