I would really like to stress the feature of letting the search point to a gallery and allowing the display of photos from registered users to non-registered users. It seems that other users want the ability for users to add their own albums and if this feature is to be done, I think that most all webmasters will be setting their galleries to be usable by registered users only. We don't want anonymous users posting pictures do we, but we want anonymous users viewing the pictures because one of the big reasons to have a photo album is to show people your photos.
I really can not stress how much the search needs this, even if it is just a role filter for viewing. If we only want registered users to view pictures, then lets only show the search input to registered users. There has to be some way to do it. Maybe have an option in the album creating process...make album searchable by "place roles here" then this can be decided on a user by user basis...

Thanks and I really hope we can see this come to life.

Mark

Mark, I have to see I'm not exactly sure about it.

When an unauthunticated user search pictures, he get a result list, if the picture is public he is able to watch it, if the picture is in a gallery which is available to registered users only, he is required to login before watch it, it seems this proces is fine?

thanks.

yes if a picture is made in a gallery for registered users only there should be an option to be able to display the picture to non-registered users OR only to registered users. I think this would give a little more flexibility.

but is there a permission violation when an unauthenticated user browse a picture which is set to be available to registered users only?

If you filter the search results to
1) show registered users all content
2) show unauthenticatd users only content viewable by unauthenticated users.

then there should not be a problem right? this would not be a total solution but it would be a step in the right direction.

or we can just make the search module only visible by registered users

Oh and whether this gets done or not, the search does still need to be able to point to a module of the users choice..This would be good for not just using on a profile page, but you can also send the viewer to a page with advertising or whatnot. Much like is offered in the Photo Calendar

Thanks

Mark

PS: Did you get my email about not being able to upload photos anymore, I get a error that the file type is not supported or the portal has exceeded capacity. My portal is unlimited in size and the file was a .JPG....so the error should not have occured
