Hello,

I just purchased Ultra Photo Gallery - It's clearly the best looking one around.
After installing it and using it for a little while I have the following feature requests:

1. Resize Photos on upload
When my users upload photos, they are typically at the highest resolution their camera can produce. This equates to huge amounts of storage required on the host. If you are using a commercial host, this usually ends up being $$$.

What I would like is a setting like "Maximum dimension (Pixels)" where a value of 800 would resize the photo so that it's longest side is 800 pixels. Then the original (Large) photo is deleted, of course.

2. Delete Zip File after Decompressing
After uploading and decompressing a .zip file, the zip file should be deleted. There is no reason to have the zip around any more, since the photos are already there.

3. Choose an existing photo to make the logo
Once you have your album filled with photos, it would be nice to be able to choose one as the logo, rather than having to upload another image as the logo.

Great job on the best photo album module out there - Keep up the great work!

I thought of another one:

4. Provide an option for the placement of the "loading" progress bar
When images are loading over a slow link, the progress bar pops up over the center of the photo and says "Contacting Server" or "Loading".  If you're trying to view the photo, this is very intrusive. It might be better to allow placement of the progress bar in one of 9 sectors on the gallery (Upper left, top center, upper right, etc.). I don't know if Flash allows you to do this, but it would greatly improve the viewing of photos over a slow link.

Thanks for your suggestion!

The 1st and 2nd feature will be implement in the next version . and I'll take further consideration about the 3rd and 4th feature.

Thanks.

Awesome!

Do you have a roadmap that shows what features are expected in what release? And (I hesitate to ask) what timetable we should expect to see things on?

I don't want to be anticipating something that is still months or years out.

I'm still collecting feature requirements about the next version and havn't decide which features to implement. but it seems that these feature will likely be available in the next version:

  • Submodule - Top Photos
  • Submodulle - Top Comments
  • Import photos from a folder
  • Hide navigation bar
  • Email a friend
  • Set the default album to display when start-up
  • Automatically resize photos when uploading
  • Intergrated Pop-up window support
  • Grid-based photo editing
  • Hide specific buttons (play,pause,download,rotate,etc.)
  • ...

It seems the next version will be available before the end or Feb 2006. and all customer who purchased Ultra Photo Gallery 2.0.x will be able to upgrade to this version for 99% discount.

Thanks.

Great!

The one that concerns me right now is the resizing, since my users are not computer-literate enough to resize their photos before they upload, or they don't have the software to do it.

That means that I will end up with HUGE photos taking up space on my hosting plan. :(

I will have to police the photo areas to make sure that they are resizing them until the next release.

Keep up the excellent work,
Desi

A lot of customers asked me about this feature. At first I promised to support this feature in the next minor release(version 2.1) , but since I received too many request about this issue. I decide to support it eariler.

I just release UPG 2.0.6, this feature is included in this version.

Every customer who purchased UPG 2.0.x will be able to download this version for totally free. you can find it in "My downloads" on Snowcovered.com. please let me know if you reached the download count(3 times), I'll reset it.

Please don't forget to post a review about my module on Snowcovered if you like my module. to join the "Latest Examples" section on BizModules.net is also a kind of support to my work. if you would like to join it. please tell me your protal title and the link to your gallery page.

Thanks. I appreciate your help.

Just wanted to say how pleased I was with the latest version. This module will definitely get my vote on Snowcovered and elsewhere.

Great Job.

Is there a way to specify that all albums will resize, and the maximum dimensions? I could only find the per album settings. If not, I'd like to suggest that you consider adding a "Default" setting for resizing and sizes for new albums that are created.

Thanks again,
Desi

It'd be nice to be able to provide picture downloads per album instead of per gallery.

Well, I think the best way to attach a download to an album is specifing a LINK to each photo.

Thanks.

It would be very helpful if there was an optional parameter, on the Gallery or Album level, to not have the slide show start automatically.  I also liked the suggestion to optionally hide buttons in the navigation bar.

The feature to optionaly hide the entire nagivation bar will definitely be available in the next version. and I think the feature to stop slide show will likely be available .

Thanks.
