Hi Pengtsen,
I know I ask for a lot on this board and I really appreciate all your work on this great module suite. Here I would like to submit for the approval, from both you and the community of dedicated UMG users, my UMG 6.0 wish list in hope that enough support could be rallied.
To be blunt, I would like to see a community oriented version released. Now that Amazon S3 is an option to outsource bandwidth and server space at very affordable pricing I feel that many more UMG purchasers may use the module for heavier projects such as a community site or atleast a community area on their web-site (content is the key!)
The features I would like to see are.
1) Satelitte modules all support Smart-Thinker Profile integration using a query key to define a data source. This way on a users page we can display just that users new uploads, newly commented on photos and their newest albums as well as a calendar for when that user uploaded images.
2) A Templateable Quick Rate and comments module. I realize that this may be hard due to the AJAX but a way we could atleast create a link to user who wrote the comment. At its best I would like to also display the profile image of that user by getting data from Smart-Thinker
3) RSS for individual users and that can point to a specific instance of a module.
4) A single management UI for regular users ( admins still get to use the rest ) I proposed this as a custom project a while back but to let other know, the idea is a single page with a album navigation to the left and an album content pane on the right. Open an album to view its content and edit a specific image details like title and description via AJAX. Maybe even a JavaScript that give a lightbox type pop-up with the image details. Also allow drag and drop re-organization and a drop-down list to move it to a different album. I would also like to be able to select images which I have uploaded to create a downloadable .ZIP Then UMG can also be a storage repository for users.
5) More intuitive and faster photo upload process a) When creating an album have a button "Save album and add picture" to take the user to the photo upload wizard
b) new upload work flow that allows the user to first only select the image they want to upload. Also it would be nice to allow the user to upload atleast 3 images simultaniously. Once the images are uploaded you have a wizard that allows you to set the details like title and description.
c)Selling Photos, for the average user the download file is a hastle I think. Most users will be selling the same photo as they are uploading. And honestly if you are allowing the users to sell at their leisure, the current system is a liability where a user can easily de-fraud the buyer by selling an image that is not the same as the display. So, my idea is that when uploading a photo for retail, the user should indicate the intention to sell by checking an check box. This would expand the upload field to include another upload area for "Release forms" and a "price" text field This is how most of the Stock Photo sites do it, or at least more similar These uploads should require admin approval.
6) This is the last request but not as important as the above. A while ago I had a satellite module developed called "Photo Boxes" that allows users to collect the photos they like from other users. You can see this type of feature on stock photo sites where they call it a "Light Box" It might be nice to poll the user base and see it others might want the same feature. the this could be included in public realease in hopes for some user feedback and possibly a better module in the end.
Thanks for reading everyone. Please reply with your support.
