I have lots of photos about 1 or 2 MB. But big byte size photos are not necessary for web display. They are slow to transfer and hog server resources unnecessarily I am wondering if UMG5 can auto reduce large photo bytes size? For example: from 1MB to 100KB. Thanks!

yes, you can set a max picture resolution, so when you upload a picture UMG resize it to smaller resolution so the file size is smaller.

thanks.

Where can this max picture resolution set in the personal gallery mode? I don't see anything in the settings.
Thanks

it's set on Edit Album screen. so each album can have different settings.

So the admin does not have the right to decide the size of the pics?

yes, but only in Normal gallery mode, in personal gallery mode it's determined by your site users.

The current fix for this is to find th ucEditAlbum.ascx page in the module PA zip and edit it so that the resize to resolution fields are hidden by setting the visibility on the TD to false
This will also hid them from the host or admin but you can set the default size when creating and instance of the module on a page. Or you can keep a back-up of the original and swap it when you need it.

I have done alot of this to hide stuff that normal users would need the manual to understand and keep it simple.

Personally I believe that users should not get those kinds of privilages on a site. Like you said some images can be big these days, and some of us don't have the bandwidth to carry them so we have to protect our interests.

Hope that helps

Mark

Mark, thank you for sharing your experience with us.

However, I just have an idea, maybe you can add a database trigger so your user is not able to set a size bigger than specific value.

thanks.
