I am not having any luck getting UVG Converter to work on my Windows 7 machine. Per the instructions I have downloaded and installed .net framework (including the new rc4 version for Windows 7). Sometimes I can get the program to run, but when I right click to try and setup the settings the program crashes. UVG Converter is working on an older xp computer.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I need to get it to work on this machine.

Machine details:
Windows 7 pro (64 bit)
4gb on Memory
.net 4rc (I tried version 3.5 as well).

Thanks.

Andy

First Thank You!

I am impressed with the quick fix. It installed great. After using it today I just noticed a couple things 1) when I tried to work with a large file 3gb the program crashed 2) When I went into the options portion to add the right click function to movies I recieved the following error:

Overall it worked great!

Andy

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I didn't use it to encode 3gb video. how much ram do you have? how much free disk space do you have on c:\?

about the 2nd problem, it seems this feature doesn't work in windows 7 due to a security issue, I'll add a try catch in UVG Converter so it doesn't fire such an error.

beside these 2 problems, it works fine on windows 7, right?

Andy, I invite you to download http://www.bizmodules.net/portals/0/downloads/uvgconverter3_2.zip and test it once again and ensures it fix the 2nd problem.

if possible, test it on x86 and x64 platform both.

if it works fine I'll announce it to all UVG users.

thanks.

I have downloaded it and will give it a try tomorrow at work. ( I took today off, and only have access to a 64 bit machine at home).

In terms of the large file crashing ... I have 300gb of free space and I am running with 4gb of memory (tomorrow I am installing another 4gb for a total of 8gb). I was watching the converter on the task manager and it was not hitting my processor all that hard, but my memory was really getting used. I'll try it again with the additional memory and I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanks again for putting together the 64bit version. I sure appreciate it.

Hi Pengtsen,

Could you please share how did you fix it?

I made a very customized UVG converter for one of my customers that pulls data from their database creating watch folders for some of his users (you may remember), and I don't want to lose all my changes.

Not too long ago he started complaining that on some of their computers, UVG Converter stopped working after upgrading to framework 3.5 (computers that didn't upgrade the framework were fine).

I recompiled so it generates a new manifest that runs the program as an administrator, and the new version "works" with framework 3.5 error messages, but it won't refresh my custom watch folders and it appears to not to save info.

What should I change to fix it? Don't kill yourself telling me what to do in detail, but I'd really appreciate if you cand send me in the right direction.

I didn't want to hijack this post, so please feel free to move my question somewhere else if needed.

Thanks
Omar

In Build - Configuration Manager, choose "x86" as active solution platform.
