I recently purchased UVG 4 and so far I've added 2 large videos (both over an hour). The first video I uploaded worked perfectly in both low and high quality. The second video works fine in low, but it does not load at all in high quality mode (just sits there). The HQ file does appear to exist in the file system. Any ideas? Thanks -JB |

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I've already deleted it thinking that it might have just been a bad encoding. However, I now have another issue I'm fighting with. I have 6 videos that I'm trying to get encoded and uploaded to the site. All of them are about an hour long. I've been trying to use the stand alone converter app to get them added to the site and I'm having no luck at all. First I tried to encode one of the videos from my desktop. The encoding process took hours on my Quad-Core 64bit machine but it did finally finish and started the upload process. The upload ran into the night and when I got up in the morning, both files (low and high) were sitting in the directory on the server, but the video never appeared in the gallery. Next I tried to encode the files on the web server itself. Each time I do it, it starts the encoding process and I come back later and the converter app is no longer running and no videos have been uploaded. I even tried putting it in "silent" mode and pointing it at a directory that had copies of all of the videos. I saw that it found the videos and started the upload process, but a day later all of the videos were deleted from the directory but no new videos were in the gallery. So, while the smaller videos work flawlessly, I'm having a terrible time trying to get my larger videos put into my system. Any hints? Thanks |

We recommend to use UVG Converter for large videos. When did you download UVG Converter? Can you give me a url to download one of your video in question? |

Ok, sorry for the delayed reply. I have been working on other projects and had to shelve this one for a bit but now I'm working on it again. I just tried to use UVG Converter to upload a 400Meg MP4 file from my home computer to our website and once again it didn't work. Here's what I observed. 1) UVG Convert tool over 20 hours to encode the video on my computer. My computer is a AMD Athlon II X4 620 Processor & 2.6 Ghz with 4 Meg of ram. Not the fasted computer by todays standards, but it shouldn't take that long to encode a video. 2) After the encoding finally completed, the video appears to upload correctly, though I wasn't watching at the exact instance that it finished, all I know is that the UVG converter window was gone. 3) When I logged onto the site, the video was not there in UVG. 4) I looked in the file system and I did see that a file was uploaded to the my user directory under UVG. 5) The file size of the upload was over 1 Gig, so somehow a 400Meg file nearly tripled in size during the encoding process (My UVG Encoding settings are Low: 360P FLV, High: 720P MP4 (h264 main profile). It's also worth noting that the original file format was larger than 720P. At this point I'm at a loss as to what to do next. No path that I take seems to be able to get these larger videos into the system. I have made all of the files that I'm trying to upload available to download on our website. If you can provide me with your email address, I will send it to you so you can check out the files yourself. If there is any other information that I can provide, please let me know. Thanks Again Jason |

I have a similar issue. A couple days ago I ftp'd a 750M (h264 mp4 - 59 min video) onto our server and used the UVG add video function. High and low quality video works fine. Today I used both the FTP method as well as the UVG convertor (local drive) and neither of the uploads plays the HIGH res version. The mp4 file uploaded plays on the server fine, but the UVG player only plays the audio track - no video in HIGH res, but the flv that was created works fine in the player. The only thing that was changed between uploads was the 're-encode' h264 videos configuration option. I 'll switch it back to 're-encode' and see if that returns my problem to the working method. |

Yes, when I chose 're-encode' h264 videos, then the high res one works fine, but if I chose (uncheck) the re-encode, then the original upload doesn't play in the UVG player, only the flv (low res) . Note that the uploaded (ftp) video plays fine in QuickTime locally and on the server, but not in the UVG player. For now, we can simply re-encode everything. |

| Unfortunately, I can't seem to encode large videos like that on the server. Whenever I try, I eventually get out of memory errors on the server... |

What are you using for a server? For an 60 min mp4 (550Meg) , we use a 2.4Ghz processor, 4 Gig RAM. It takes about 30% of the duo-core and RAM for roughly 2 hours to re-encode the video in high and low, and then it's sent out to the Amazon cloud for streaming. The remote processing for the same only fails when the setup (webconfig) isn't large enough for the file, or when the iis worker process resets during the upload. The failure 'looks' like a stupid error, but it's only been one or the other for us. That's why we FTP the large files first, then encode on the server from a 'local' drive. Hope this helps a bit. |

Ok, that's very odd because smaller files are taking much, much longer to encode for me and they are actually turning out a lot larger when they are done encoding. This is really starting to frustrate me. I'm pretty sure that the web.config is setup properly on my server. I have it set to allow 2 gig uploads. When you say you are uploading them to the server, do you mean that you're using the UVG converter on the server after you FTP them up? If so, I've tried this and I get out of memory exceptions. I'm starting to wonder if there isn't something particular about these files that UVG is having issues with... Thx for your tips & help. -JB |

| I'm using the FTP portion of the My Videos module (I believe it's called that). It lists the videos uploaded to the 'username' folder. It's also a second encoding, since the videos are already h264 when I upload them with FTP. |

Daniel, you said "Yes, when I chose 're-encode' h264 videos, then the high res one works fine, but if I chose (uncheck) the re-encode, then the original upload doesn't play in the UVG player, only the flv (low res) . " I guess your mp4 is not supported by flash? that's why UVG plays after reencode but doesn't play it if not reencoded. Jason, it's abnormal to take 20 hours to encoded a video, if possible, upload your video to somethere and give me an url to download it. |

I just sent an email to your support address with the URL where the videos can be downloaded directly (I don't want to expose the URL in a public forum). Please let me know if you didn't get it. Thanks in advance for looking into this. -JB |

Thanks Pengsten. You are correct - we've just upgraded our video production software (Avid/Studio 14 from 12) and after producing a test video in every format available, and then uploading each and comparing, we discovered that the video software codecs have changed, meaning that what we believed was the best procedure on v12 is no longer the best for v14. It turns out that the best combo for us (quality playback, file size, time to encode) is the DivX Avi, and second is the Mpg 2 format. The MP4 version (as you wrote) doesn't play in high res, neither does the flash version. The wmv takes longest to encode, and looks stretched horizontally (distorted 4:3) So.. we are re-producing our work to date on this project (MENtrepreneurs), switching to the DivX Avi format - then using the UVG4 converter to upload and encode as h264, which is then streamed from Amazon. Thanks for the nudge! |

| I have been having similar problems. I have been encoding in H264 and .mp4 using Final Cut Pro. The player shows that there is a high version and plays it but it is not in HD. I have gone through all the settings and think it is a ll good. |

Pengtsen, I have a little more to add to this thread... I re-encoded one our our source videos to a different format and after that I was able to upload and encode the video using the webpage (not UVG Converter) in a reasonable amount of time. However... I still have the original problem where the 720p version of the video does not play (the 360p) version plays fine. I have the HD version that won't play now and I can make it available to you if that would be helpful. -JB |
