Hi, I have problem In publishing high quality videos using uvg. When Im uploading 800k h264 quick time video material with settings: <mp4 mode="Fixed" bitrate="800000" /> (or <mp4 mode="Dunamic" bitrate="4" />) <mpg mode="Dynamic" bitrate="6" /> I have much lower quality then original file. To have similar quality i need to set bitrate to more than 1500kbps. How can I improve video quality without incising dramatically bitrate? Do you have any additional parameters to manage quality in "bitratemanager". How to change sound quality? Thanks |

the only way to adjust video quality is bitrate manager. and the audio quality seems to be fixed. when you set bit rate to 1500kbps ,what's the real video bitrate after conversion? http://www.bizmodules.net/portals/0/downloads/videoinformation.zip can help you to see the bitrate of a video. |

for bitratemanager settings: <bitratemanager> <flv mode="Fixed" qmin="5" qmax="15" /> <mp4 mode="Dynamic" bitrate="8" /> <mpg mode="Dynamic" bitrate="6" /> </bitratemanager> which gives me optimal quality (almost as good as the original video which is compressed with quicktime h264 800kbps), Video Info shows 1975kbps. Original size is 7,7mb after recompression 17mb. |

UVG use ffmpeg to encode videos, it seems ffmpeg doesn't have as good performance as quicktime or other desktop encoding engines. so I guess you may consider to lower your bitrate settings. thanks. |

| You are using quite old version of ffmpeg (02/2007). Didn't you think to make update to newer version? ffmpeg have option to code using 2 pass. This option increasing video quality. could be great to have this control in UVG. |

2 pass makes the encoding time much longer, and cost more server resource. when I have time I'll check to see if the newer version produce video in better quality. |

Hello Pengtsen, I was looking for a solution before bothering you but this thread is as close as I've come to getting an answer to my question. Which is... When I embed code from say YouTube the quality of the videos are supurb but when I use the UVG player much quality is lost. Is there any way to correct this? Thanks, Dave |

No, the videos are coming from the exact same source. Should the quality be the same on YouTube and UVG? I just thought the player in UVG had something to do with it. I would love to correct this. I want to keep the videos on my site, not YouTube. As it is now, I can't take advantage of the great features that UVG offers. While I've got your attention... Are the videos ever going to be able to play right in facebook? Maybe in a future release of UVG? -Thanks Dave |

Ok Pengtsen, here is the test... This is the video on my site that pays through the YouTube URL "in the UVG player". http://www.myrtlebeachhomefinder.tv/CommunityVideos/TabId/74/VideoId/37/UVG-Player-Test.aspx Now, this is the video on my site with embed code playing in the "YouTube player". http://www.myrtlebeachhomefinder.tv/CommunityVideos/TabId/74/VideoId/29/North-Myrtle-Beach-Christmas-Parade-2009.aspx There is a big differnce in quality. As I said before, I want to serve the video from my site, not YouTube's. If we can correct this I will... The same thing happens when I upload video with the UVG converter. Thanks Pengtsen, for any help you can give on this issue. -Dave |

ok, I saw the problem, I'll check what I can do for it. by the way, it's suggested you to use embed code for youtube videos if possible, you know the ability to play videos in UVG player with a given youtube url is not advertised now, do you know why? because it's not reliable, maybe this feature will be discontinued in the future due to a youtube api change. |

Ok, I only used the url for the test to show the difference in the quality. I've been using the embed code for all other videos. I read about the problems with urls on the boards here. Please let me know as soon as you come up with a fix for this. I know hosting the videos on my own hosting server will increase my search engine visability. Again, will videos ever be able to play directly in facebook? This isn't as important as the quality issue but it would be nice. ;) Thanks, -Dave |

I'm only playing the videos from YouTube because the video quality in YouTubes player is so much better. I would rather upload videos to my own site but the quality has to improve in the UVG player before I do this. I would rather keep my digital assets on my host server, not YouTube's. I used the URL test for you to see the difference in quality between the two players. The quality doesn't get any better when I upload video to my host server using UVG converter and the UVG player. I feel the UVG player is the weak link. Maybe I'm wrong? If I am, I would love to figure out how to improve the quality without uploading to YouTube. Once the quality issue is fixed I will not be using YouTube. When this happens I will be able to take advantage of more features in UVG. For example, realated videos in the UVG player at the end of the videos and users being able to rate videos after they are seen. Don't get me wrong here... UVG, as I have said before is the best addition to DNN I've ever purchased. For the price, I feel like I shouldn't even bring up the quality issue, but I can tell by the quality of your work that you are driven by producing the best product you can for a good price. Maybe next version? Thanks, -Dave |

| Dave, it seems I misunderstood a importan question, when you said the video qualify in UVG is bad, do you upload your video to UVG and let UVG convert it? or you just add it to UVG from a youtube url with "add a url from a internet address" option? |

Either way I get the same poor quality. Give me some time and I'll show you. I'll post a link to a video that I uploaded to the site directly. I'll be back with a link... |
