Hi Pengtsen,

We may have asked for this before, but I'd really like to offer the ability for visitors to post comments to videos without having to register as a member of my site.

This would work like most blogger or wordpress blogs in that the visitor can give a name, email, and website url to be included in their comment header.

On my site, you can see how this is implemented with the Ventrian News Articles module here:

http://www.liftkettlebells.com/news/ArticleType/PostComment/ArticleID/51.aspx

It should use the security code (captcha) to prevent spambots.

Do you think you could add functionality based on what you see here?

Thanks!
Jeff

well, I remember UVG do allow anonymous users to play video comment, just disable "login to rate" in UVG_Configurations is ok.

That's correct, but I believe it just shows an IP address for the user. We need to allow them to put in their name and optional web address.

By doing this, you are much more likely to get people to comment on videos.

Requiring them to register for your site as a DNN member stops many people from commenting.

Just giving some help on this

Captcha is already in the core and is easily implemented into modules. For starters, here's a good link on how to implement CAPTHA:

Jeff,
That looks like a huge helper to Pengtsen, thanks!

Again, I think this feature will be a huge enhancement to UVG. In thinking about this more, UVG will often be used to support small, focused communities.

Youtube has the luxury of millions of people visiting. But a successful UVG side might only have thousands.

So, it is extremely important to make it as easy as possible for peope to interact with the site. Many visitors are unlikely to leave a comment on impulse if they have to register for a site. But, they will fill in a Name & Email and copy a captcha.

Here's another example of how this is done on my other website (a wordpress site):

I am also in favor of this enhancement request.

P.S.
The video section is quickly becoming the most popular section in my website. Keep up the good work Pengsten!!

Actually,
Now that I think about it, Captcha is a secondary concern. I'd be happy for now if it just allowed non-site-members to post comments along with their name and/or website.

If the Captcha part is difficult, I think that would be fine for a future release.
Best,
Jeff

My son would say the idea of captcha w/o registration is DOPE. I think he mens it's a great idea, and I add my vote for the function. Any progress on this?
