Hi there, I've got a client who wants to put up videos in a pay-per-view scenario and of course UVG is the best module around, so I'm wondering if something like this might be considered in a future update. I'm not sure exactly how it would work, because it wouldn't be very good if the visitor had to go off to paypal for every single view. Maybe there would be a way to make a selection of videos by adding them to a cart and then go off and pay for all in one go. Then of course the person would need to be able to come back and watch them. There would probably need to be an option to allow x number of views per purchase to allow for network problems. So it's a bit like the way UMG has a cart, except that users don't get to keep the videos, they just get to view them a number of times. Maybe it would let the purchaser pay a set amount into a virtual account and then they could view as many videos as they want and for each one it takes a dollar amount out of their account until it gets to zero. A further variation would be that the purchaser could view them until a certain date. So for example if they pay for a month of training, they then get to watch as many vids for the month as they like. And then perhaps the cart could also optionally be just like UMG and let the purchaser download and keep the clips if the site owner wants it like that. Hope all that makes sense. What do you think? Regards, Rob |

any kind of limitation about "view times" is meaningless, with Real Player 11 users can easily download a movie clip from ANY internet flash video player. in UVG your clients can sell subscriptions, doesn't it work for your client's website? |

This is more about selling content to nice people who would not go out of their way to steal. One can never stop a real thief but one can certainly stop a lot of passive content theft by such methods and of course it provides structure to a training programme if people are expected to use their time up before a certain date. However, I've only just installed the module today and had a quick look at the features page before I wrote the post to see if it had something like this. I didn't notice the subscriptions option and will go and look for it now and see if it suits. Thanks for the pointer Rob |

Hi again, I can't see a subscriptions topic in the guide. I can see RSS subscriptions but you won't mean that. Do you mean the client should use DNN to create subscribable roles and then configure the modules in a way that certain roles see only certain content? hmm.. that would mean that it wouldn't work per video. The clips would have to be organised into larger groups I think. Is that the idea? Thanks for any further advice Rob |
