Hi.
My encoding strategy is set to flv + h264.
Is it possible for me to upload pre-encoded files (meaning there is no encoding done on the server) for both filetypes?
I know that I can upload h264-files and tell UVG not to re-encode the h264, but then the flv-encoding is done on the server. How can also give UVG my pre-encoded flv-file of the same clip?
There reason I want to do this is that we have large amounts of video to upload at this time, and we do not want to bother the web-server with the encoding, and we want to take advantage of some more powerful workstations that we have.
Sincerely
ames

I'm sorry but it seems it can only be half done, UVG can ignore the h264 version but flv need to be encoded.

hm, that's too bad.
Could it not be possible to e.g. copy the flv-files directly to the server, given they have the correct name or something?
I think there should be a function to do this. And it can't be that hard to implement, can it?
I mean, if you upload a flv and encoding strategy is set to flv, uvg keeps the original files, right?
And if you upload a h264 and tick "do not re-encode", it keeps the original. Why not combine the two? :)

in UVG Add Video module, there is only 1 field to upload video, to accomplish this there need to have 2 separate fileds.
however, did you try the flv video generated from the mp4 version? are you satisfied with it?

flv encoded from the mp4-video, using the add video module works. I would prefer to use my video-editor to do the flv encoding, for better results, but my biggest objection is the time it will take to convert all my videos sequentially from mp4 to flv using the webserver. In fact I have close to 40 hours of video I plan to upload (divided over a lot of files of course).
I imagine our relatively slow web-server would use quite some time chewing throug that material, compared to our relatively fast videoediting workstations..
I guess I will have to tackle this challenge using the options availiable at this point (meaning no uploading of pre-encoded versions of both flv and mp4), but I would really recommend that the function to do this is added in a future version. I bet it would save people with large archives a lot of time :) (especially if this could be implemented in uvg converter or ftp/syncronize for batch uploads).
If I use the syncronize/ftp function and upload my mp4-files, will the videos be encoded to flv then (given of course the encoding strategy is set to flv+h264)?

yes
however, if you are worry about your server performance, an alter solution is to use UVG Converter, so the flv-encoding progress is performed on your local work station.
