Pengtsen,
Is there a way to prevent a video from starting to download before the user presses the play button? It happens with embedded videos and when viewing from the player on the site. The problem is that it is ia waste of bandwidth if the user chooses not to play a video that has been embedded on a page.
Thanks! Steve |

I understand you wishes to have the player perform well and it does. However, DNN Site Admins need the ability to control bandwidth cost. Particularly if it is not required by the end user.
We need an option, like Auto Play, where we can decide to start the download with or without intervension. It is imposible to control our hosting costs like this.
Please, give us the option for, "User must hit Play to start download" |

Hey Brian, Obviously, I agree with you, and will not allow videos to be embedded until that is an option. If you look at YouTube - arguable the masters in the video hosting space - their videos do not start downloading until you hit play. To me it's obvious that it is done to prevent wasted bandwidth that will be consumed when people are just "browsing" videos. Hopefully Pengtsen will reconsider and follow the lead of the leaders. Thanks, Steve |

Posted By Pengtsen R on 08/17/2008 6:33 PM this feature is now available. Are you referring to the not downloading before pressing play? That would be very interesting.

I downloaded and installed UVG 02.04.03, but the auto play does not appear to be working as indicated:
http://media.nsbsa.org
All videos are still downloading when navigating to the player page and the stage is black, instead of with the screen shot.
I did get the thread error when installing, but my DNN reports UVG_AddVideo as version 02.04.03
I tried restarting my DNN installation (v 4.8.3) before posting.
I can give you an admin login if needed. Looking forward to this feature. Does it also prevent the 'Views' counter from increasing until the video is actually played? (Especially when using embed code on other websites.)
Thanks,
Clint

you need to turn off "Auto load" in UVG Player module, did you? the 1st version of UVG 243 display a empty stage before video is being loaded, however, the latest version display the screenshot of this video in the stage, the screenshot is removed once the video is being loaded. please remember you should clear your browser cache after upgrade. |

Auto Play is unchecked and I cleared the Cache. It still downloads the video, stage is black. It doesn't play until I click the play button. I downloaded 2.4.3 on 2008-08-25 from my Snowcovered My Downloads page. Tried in IE 6 and Firefox 2 Sample: http://media.nsbsa.org/VideoPlayer/TabId/440/VideoId/37/Police-Exploring-Promo.aspx |

| I am having a similar issue. Everything seemed to work Ok, when I upgraded, but stopped and went back to preloading the video. This is the second time I am installing the upgrade. Auto load is unchecked. I have two embedded videos on the home page of the site, and each has to preload everytime someone visits the home page. |

| I don't see 'auto load' (only the 'auto play'). I am getting a Thread was being aborted error when I try to install the most recent download. (Is there a reason you did not increase the vesion number with this feature?) |

| Bhai Sesay, it seems the "auto load" option is not disabled on your site, can you check it again? |

After the install I don't see the 'Auto Load' option. (On the UVG_Player module correct?) |
