Youtube videos I added no longer play.  When I added them, I added them in the following format http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=111111videoID .  These entries were converted to RESOLVED URL locations of the FLV videos.

If the FLV video is not available at that "Deep link" Location (because youtube moved it around on their servers internally) the software breaks.

I dont know what the solution is, but the solution is NOT for me to click all my videos and have to RE ENTER what I entered http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=111111videoID

There has to be a better way.  I feel dumb REENTERING what I have already entered once, when I know this should be done in code, not manually.

What makes it worse is that you have no idea what videos are still work and which ones needs to have the data REENTERED into, without clicking each video, this should be handled in code so that it JUST WORKS.

I had the same problem. Pengsten has updated the way UVG handles YouTube so now it works. I had to manually re-enter the video url in the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=111111videoID  format.

I think the only long term solution is in this thread

Lets face it - YouTube and other such services will continue to fight with direct downloads from their servers. Also, there are copyright implications of direct downloads.

UVG allows you to embed from youtube but you should take care of the copyright issues, don't emded it if you are not the author or authorized.

now Amazon S3 integration is available, you also can consider to host your videos on amazon.

thank you.

Pengsten, we are mixing two issues here.

UVG does NOT allow you to embed videos, it allows you to directly stream from YouTube - very different. Even if you are the author of the YouTube video you are technically violating their policy because you are showing it directly on your site without giving credit to YouTube.

That's why I think allowing the third option for UVG - "embed video" - will solve the problem.

Amazon S3 is a great addition for videos directly posted on your website. For all other public videos (youtube, myspace, etc.) you want to show/share on your site UVG can still be great if it allows real embedding as well.

I see that the code no longer uses the "deep link" to the flv file on youtubes servers for new updates and saves.  Thats a big plus.  Now we still have the original data if needed.  I will just go through my database and update them now that I know they will not just be changed to the "deep link".

The option to use the youtube player, or google player, or default site player, would be a nice option, and is probably the best long term option for adding youtube videos ( and google) to your dotnetnuke site via UVG.

Time and Time again I realize I really need the source code to this module to do what I really want to do.  Maybe there will be a sale soon to prompt me to buy it on snowcovered.

I appreciate your suggestions so much, I'll add such a "From embed code" option in the future.

thanks.
