Hi
I have recently been enjoying UVG. I am wondering if you would consider adding a FAVOURITES feature in UVG just like on youtube. I think this feature is very useful for users who want to collect or create a playlist of videos or audio.
I think this will have to work with a profile module. e.g myprofile a user creates a profile and he adds all his favourite music videos on his profile, this helps the user to listen to certain songs. I think this will work hand in hand with a playlist feature.
I hope you consider this.
thanks Ibrahim

This is a MUST HAVE feature... Every open source (PHP) script available offeres a Playlist or Favourites feature. We need this ASAP. How much $$$ to get this started?
I think the UVG module needs to move towards a complete YouTube type module. Bringing together the more social aspects of Web2.0 like adding friends and private messaging (perhaps team up with another module developer to create a myspace/youtube combo)
Another huge asset would be In-Video advertising capabilities!!!!!!!!!!! This could make a lot of people really motivated to buy your module simply because of the revenue potentials with in-video advertising. $$$$$
And lastly, the encoder needs to be replaced. Take a look at the Flix API and offer users an option to use a real "quality encoder". Every other encoder on the market and even the free ones create better looking FLVs than the one in UVG. If I want my videos to look good using UVG i have to encode them using either the Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder or I recently tried the AllDJ Video Encoder and then upload them to the site. And of course the UVG degrades the quality again by doing its own compression, but not as bad as when I upload the AVI, MPG, or MOV.
The encoder needs to have a setting for matching the movies framerate and dimensions as these are the 2 biggest things that cause poor quality FLVs.
I understand as one person, you can only do so much to stay on top of CS and bug issues let alone adding new functionality. So what are your plans for the progression of UVG? Do you have an estimated timeline for new features?
Thanks! |

Playlists, advertises, I think these features should be included in the next major upgrade, but I'm sorry currently I don't have a time table. About the video quality, do you mean the videos generated by UVG have poor quality? did you try to increase your bit rate and video size in uvg_configurations module? |

YES UVG videos end up with poor quality compared to any other FLV encoder regardless of how high you set the bit rate, dimensions, or frame rate. Here are some of the issues witht he converter: Needs to be able to detact and match the frame rate of the uploaded video - If the frame rate of the upload video is less than the frame rate set in UVG quality is terrible. Just like the next issue, you can't make something out of nothing. If the Dimensions in UVG are larger than the uploaded video, the picture becomes super pixelated. UVG needs to recognize a video's dimensions and only decrease size, not try to make something out of nothing which is what happens when you try to enlarge any bitmap, video or still image. The bitrate, although a very important factor in compressing video, is pointless when the last 2 issues exist. Bitrate needs to be relative to the actual video footage, not the end result of improper frame rate and dimensions. Even if the bit rate is set to 1000Kbps it means nothing when the video has been so mangled from trying to increase frame rate and dimensions. Remember video is no different than any bitmap image. the original file has only so many pixels or lines to make up the image, and the frame rate can only be as fast as the source footage. So the UVG needs to take the settings as MAX values and only alter videos that are above those values. Thanks!!! |

I appreciate your feedbacks so much, however, in most case the video size set in UVG_Configurations is smaller then the actual video size you uploaded, but in your case it have a bigger value? if the uploaded video is in flv format, UVG doesn't encode it again, if videos are in other formats like avi, mpg, wmv, rm, genrerally these videos have better quantity(bigger size, higher bitrate) then the targe flv videos, so it won't cause to pixelated video. thanks. |

Hi another feature that you might consider is adding - Most viewed videos per week and per month i think this can be added to most popular module. You know if you have hundreds of videos you wanna know what videos are popular in this week or this month rather than having to know the most popular videos of all time. thanks ibrahim |

| Another suggestion: Promote top 5 or 10 users that sends most videos at a week or month by displaying their website (can be retrieved from user's dnn profile) at home page. |

Let's get back the the "Favorites" idea. Having a user specified "playlist" that is tied to their unique userid is very adventageous in today's up and coming Social Networking. By tying playlist(s) to a user and allowing for them to update, change, etc. this can be extended to profile integrations and sharing with friends, etc. just like a few of the other modules in UMG and UVG. Site viewers can see what their friends are recommending to watch, and users can keep track of videos that they are not the author of. Something like this would integrate well in Smart Thinker and most likely the up and coming Active Profiles. |

| My business plan is based on users being able to find, and share videos with others, so this is a very good idea.
Any thoughts on the next release date? |

UVG 3 is still under development, it won't be available in a month. Favourites is going to be included in UVG 3, but we havn't make up our decision whether to support playlist. |
