Hey Pengtsen,

Currently you have a cross portal sharing option with "latest videos" and "Spotlight".  This is an excellent feature however it currently doesn't allow for cross portal category selection. So currently you can either show all cross portal videos or none.

An excellent new feature would be the ability to have cross portal sharing with category selection so that you can be selective in the video which are shared using the cross portal feature.

If this feature is already supported please enlighten me on how to use it - as I have been trying to figure it out now for several days.

Thanks,
Pat

no, this is not supported yet.

in my opinion, in most situations you don't need to selelct categories when you enable "cross portals", if you want to select categories like the current portal, when you divide them to separated portal?

however, I would like to hear from more peoples.

thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

Hey Pengtsen,

In my current situation we have several portals which are uploading videos for a variety of different categories. Within the portal they display the different categories on different pages.

All of the portals within the installation want to be able to share across the portals but would like to be able to keep the shared videos sorted within the categories that were originally selected by the person who uploaded them.

This would allow the different pages to automatically be updated with the newest videos added in the various categories.

In the current configuration it requires me to sign in as the SuperUser and to reassign the videos to the specific categories on all of the portals.

As this feature isn't currently supported - is it possible that you could provide me with a quote for creating this feature for my installation - as it will save me endless amounts of unnecessary repetitive administration.

I understand that this may not be a highly sought after feature but in my circumstance it would be magic!
Thanks,
Pat

you can consider to alter UVG_CategoryList procedure in your database, this SP returns categories in current portal only, you can remove the "where portalid=@portalid" statement so it returns categories in all protals.

you also can make a linkage to Portals table so it adds portal name to the beginning of category title like:

My Default Website -> Education Videos
My Another Portal -> Sports

However, this means you see extra categories in all portals when you add a new video in any portal.

thanks.

Hey Pengtsen,
I like the first option you have suggested. I was able to find UVG_CategoryList procedure in my database, however the @portalid doesn't appear to be editable. I am using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Should I be using another program to edit it within the database or should I be editing it from within the DeskTopModules?

If you can give me some guidance on this one it would be truly appreciated.
Thanks,
Pat

Hey Pengtsen,
I figured out the database thing. Now because I had already added 20+ catagories (all the same catagories) to 30 different sites - I now have 30 of each in my catagories list. Is there any way that I can efficiently remove the duplicates or do I have to delete them individually?
Thanks,
Pat

it's not a big amount, you can delete them manually.

Hey Pengtsen,
An interesting thing has happened since making the change to the database for categories. When you click on the link for the videos it redirects to the home page instead of the video. The only exception is in the portal where I selected the categories. In this portal I can view all of the videos as normal.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Pat

can you try to specify a player tab for each of your category?

Hey Pengtsen,
When I specified a player tab in one portal it would cause all of the other portals to also point to the same player tab. However, I found the solution by selecting none selected for both the player tab and the listings tab all portals now work properly.
Thanks for all your help - it is working great now!
