I have to say I'm not familiar with this, but if this is a common request we will consider it.

Hi There, This is something I've been asked for (and havent event set the module live yet.. - although the inital feedback has been fantastic) I use an iphone regularly and for that to work with youtube the video has to be h264 not flv. Recent versions of the flash player (9.somthing and up) natively support and stream both encodings, also h264 can be much higher quality without a huge increase in file size. Hopefully if UVG could support h264 in the future then you could have 2 player pager and navigate to the correct one for the viewing device, 1 screen would embed the video natively (no swf player) and the second screen could behave as it does now. Thanks for a fantastic product (the security per file is what made it for us) Andy

yes, h264 is going to be supported in UVG 3. so you mean we just need to setup 2 kinds of player page? one for PC or MAC, one for phones?

I've just double checked - looks like you _could_ get away with 1 player (although I would had a different page with less stuff on for mobiles anyway) but you would have to have a script to check the useragent first and then show either the quicktime link or the flash link.

see http://homepage.mac.com/qt4web/embedforiphone.html on how to do the quicktime links for displaying on an iphone.

The alternatives would be :

1) change the video list to link to either the video direct (security issues possibly) or the player page based on user agent

2) have 2 players (again you would need to divert to 1 or other based on the user agent)

3) have the player detect the phone type and show the correct interface to the video.

The other issue with phones is when you embed the video on another page - it appears there is custom code in the iphone specifically for the iphone, so I have no idea how to get round that.

Hi

I saw this thread and I have been expermenting with mobile inside DNN.

We have just used others players and have tried viewing on mobile with no luck.

This is something I believe would be a big plus for UVG. Many customers now moving to video are now asking for mobile access.

As you know I have been using your UVG and UMG since you first developed them.

You have given me so much support

With so many projects you have I realize this could be a big step for you.

I would find a way to support for custom or ?

Kemper

h264 support will be included in UVG 3, let's see what happens with it. currently I'm not familiar with iphone development.

Hi Pengsten,

With the new iPads coming out, and many people using iPhones, it'd be great if UVG could support HTML5 ways of playing videos. This would require an upgrade to the H.264 encoding... so maybe include it in the professional edition.

There are ways to have videos play with a simple "<.video>" HTML tag in certain browsers, and fallback to flash player if not a supported browser.

http://camendesign.com/code/video_for_everybody

has some information that you might find useful to include this feature. I think it's going to be a VERY requested feature soon.

Getting this to work would be a NO Brainer for me to upgrade to the pro version. Please let me know if / when this feature is added.

The method to support iphone/ipad in UVG will be similar to some video websites: just expose the mp4 videos url when the client use iphone.

thanks.

Does this mean you are working on including this functionality? If so, do you have an expected release date? I'd like to make my site work for Android users.
