Do you have plans to develop a player that can be used by the iPhone and iPod touch. I have a lot of customers that access our site from their phones and it would be great if the ones that own an iPhone could do so as well.

This would be a very good idea. The iPhone is great for watching video and there aren't many sites out there that support a non flash player for iPhone other than Youtube.

I have had several requests from existing clients and one potential new client. I believe this would really differentiate UVG from all other video modules even more.

I am not sure if it would have to be an application that is installed via iTunes and some how connects to your UVG website or if there is a player that is available (non flash). I know youtube has a player that works on both phones via web. I will do some research

iPhone can access internet by wi-fi, right? iPhone also have safari browser with flash plugin, so it should be able to visit UVG websites at this time.

iPhone does nor have flash so it would need to be a non flash player. It does have wi-fi and uses safari.

The solution is to create an 'video player page' that only shows an screenshot of the video with the play button in the center.. when clicked it will just open the MP4 file (that UVG4 now supports by the way) and it will open just fine in the default iphone media player app.

so you mean, the only change should be make to UVG_Player module, currently it use a flash application to play the video. it should be changed to display the video screenshot, the screenshot is a hyperlink, that we you click it you are navigated to the url of the mp4 video file. am I right?

Yes, as long Apple don't introduce a Flash Player or another embedded media player in safari, there's no other way. Some Windows Mobile device also don't have Flash or not the latest version (that supports UVG). So, similar solution would work because it have Windows Media Player. By the way, If you want to buy a new phone, buy a HTC Touch HD or HTC Touch Pro, they are the best smart phones around. Check www.htc.com (i dont work for htc, hehehehe) :-)

Is there any way to get the direct URL of the .mp4 video in the VideoPlayer.ascx file or other list modules? A simple link to it would be enough to make the video playable on the iPhone and many other portable devices. Are there any tokens such as [PLAYURL] that could be used in any of the module templates that references the .mp4 file?

iPhone will be supported in the next version of UVG.

yes, it's easy to expose the mp4 url to iphone users. but there is another problem, the mp4 generated by UVG is encoded by "h264 main profile", but iphone only support "h264 baseline profile".

There are a lot of players that can play music, videos etc. Search or iphone's app store and you will get a lot of apps to choose from. If you wanna put your own player in the apple's app store you can do that as well but it's pretty costly. If you have confusion you can contact apple's customer service as well. Once I forgot apple id password and helped me reset it.
